Working at =mc

As a member of =mc you’ll be part of a small, highly trained team of professionals committed to achieving extraordinary results for our customers.

These customers include many of the agencies helping to deal with international disasters, campaigning for social and environmental causes, or working to deal with injustice in the UK. Our work with cultural agencies such as Tate, ENO and the National Trust of Scotland is another dimension to our organisation.

Finally, we also work with public bodies, such as local authorities to improve social infrastructure in the UK.

You’ll be based in our London offices in Clapham. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm.

Most of our jobs are available as full or part-time options. Full time consultants can expect to be working out of the office seven or eight days a month.

=mc team and atmosphere

We are a small, close team of around 20 people, based in London. We plan to expand over the next two years.

The office is relaxed but hardworking. Our customers are demanding and we also set ourselves unreasonably high standards. We have clear authority and responsibility boundaries, but are essentially very ‘flat’. We have a number of forums for exchanging information, improving internal processes and our service to customers, and reporting progress and new developments.

We always build opportunities, celebrate our successes and enjoy ourselves. Over the last few years we’ve taken balloon rides over Northumberland, picnicked at Kew Gardens, visited Paris and Barcelona for lunch, been to outdoor classical concerts and held a staff meeting in Amsterdam. We’re open to new ideas!

The =mc summer school

A highlight of the =mc year is the annual summer school. Here everyone goes away for three days to share ideas on the new business and marketing plans, relax, learn new techniques collectively and share excitement. We usually ask one of our key customers to give a presentation on the work of their organisation. We also involve international partners in an annual event.

Your career: consultants

We encourage outputs and success at =mc and we’re keen to reward it. We believe in sharing the fruits of our labour. So you can expect quarterly target-related bonuses and annual profit share paid to you according to your contribution and results.

People who do well at =mc are promoted and developed. Outstanding consultants have opportunities to:

  • become senior or principal consultants, responsible for managing specific projects or a team of consultants
  • become involved in business planning processes and have a real impact on the future direction and success of =mc
  • deliver training and consultancy internationally and liaise with our overseas network of partner businesses

We’re proud to say that many of the people who’ve left =mc over the years have gone on to be outstanding successes in other careers. Many of them are:

  • running their own business as consultants
  • working for leading edge commercial companies
  • working in local authorities and charities in more senior positions including CEOs

Salary and conditions – consultants

=mc aims to reward its consultants with the best salaries in the sector. These are not the same as you might gain in the commercial consultancy field, but they can be considerable.

Your base starting salary as a management training consultant, fundraising consultant or management consultant will normally be between £30-£45K, depending on experience. We can pay more for outstanding candidates.

Your base salary will be reviewed every year. You will also receive quarterly performance related bonuses based on a target.

Finally we have an annual performance-related profit share, again based upon your contribution. On average these bonuses amount to between 10% and 20% of your salary. There is no limit to the bonus scheme or the profit share – the amount distributed depends on the amount of profit we make.

=mc currently has no contributory pension scheme but does have a stakeholder pension scheme.

Your holiday allowance is 25 days, four or five of which you’ll need to reserve for Christmas as the office closes during this period. You can also take additional unpaid leave.

=mc has a wealth and breadth of knowledge, a terrific understanding and vast experience of the ethos and culture of the not-for-profit sector. This together with their 'anything is possible' approach made =mc an obvious choice for the RNLI to partner with, to develop and deliver in-house training for our staff.
