Principal Learning & Development Consultant

Send me an email

I work across the Learning & Development and Management Consultancy teams

My areas of expertise:

  • strategic leadership development for senior leaders and leadership teams
  • influencing and negotiating training for middle managers
  • specialist support for international NGOs

At the moment

I’m working with Concern Worldwide to develop management capacity at country level (most recently in Mozambique, India and Ethiopia) and at country director and regional director levels.

I’m running a number of leadership development programmes for senior management teams, including for WOMANKIND Worldwide and the Dartmoor National Park Authority.

I’m also running a number of management and leadership training sessions for Amnesty International’s International Secretariat – at senior, middle management and for new managers.

Before =mc

I worked for fifteen years in international relief and development. I began working on emergency relief and rehabilitation projects in the Horn of Africa and then moved into research and consultancy with organisations such as CARE International, DFID and ODI, on challenges facing INGOs in providing emergency relief.

I spent five years at Catholic Relief Services (CRS), where I led the Africa programme support team, and then worked with CRS' senior management team to develop and implement a new organisational strategy.

Working at =mc lets me put all of my experience of INGO's and my passion for the not-for-profit sector, to good use!

We've used the =mc team to help frame and resolve several major strategic issues for us at the Red Cross and the wider networks we're involved in. With them you can be sure of a mixture of clear and critical thinking – plus that essential added extra value of creativity.

Mark Astarita, Director of Fundraising, British Red Cross

=mc has a wealth and breadth of knowledge, a terrific understanding and vast experience of the ethos and culture of the not-for-profit sector. This together with their 'anything is possible' approach made =mc an obvious choice for the RNLI to partner with, to develop and deliver in-house training for our staff.

Marie Smith, Training and Development Manager, RNLI
