At the moment

Over the past year or so I have been working with the RNLI to develop a leadership programme specifically designed for the RNLI's Coxswains and Lifeboat Operation Managers. This will continue to be rolled out in 2010.

I'm currently in the middle of delivering a customised Performance Management proramme for staff and managers at England Athletics. Additionally, the start of 2010 will see me preparing for a Strategic Leadership programme with Amnesty International.

In terms of our open training programmes, I'm looking forward to delivering two core programmes that we've been redeveloping: the Developing Personal Presence and Influencing and Negotiating for Results programmes. And of course, I'll be co-delivering the National Arts Fundraising School again this year in April and November.

Before =mc

My background was originally in the commercial sector,working for Bass Leisure Retail in retail operations, strategic planning and business development. This gave me a fantastic foundation in people management, finance, marketing and strategic planning.

I joined the voluntary sector in 1999 to run the Children's Promise campaign for Action for Children (formerly NCH). The campaign raised £21M for seven children's charities and got me hooked on life in fundraising and the sector. After two years in corporate fundraising at Action for Children I was promoted to Deputy Director of Fundraising and Marketing, with responsibility for HR, Finance, IT and Supporter Services in addition to fundraising responsibilities. My role included being the senior lead for fundraising on numerous 'cross-functional' corporate projects – often acting as a facilitator between finance, fundraising and services. Influencing and negotiating, presentation and personal effectiveness were key skills that I developed during this time!

I joined =mc in 2004 initially as a fundraising consultant. Having delivered a number of successful training programmes in my first 18 months, I realised that helping people to learn and develop really motivated me, and so I am now a Senior Learning & Development Consultant. I also undertake 121 coaching in leadership and personal effectiveness.

We've used the =mc team to help frame and resolve several major strategic issues for us at the Red Cross and the wider networks we're involved in. With them you can be sure of a mixture of clear and critical thinking – plus that essential added extra value of creativity.

Mark Astarita, Director of Fundraising, British Red Cross

=mc has a wealth and breadth of knowledge, a terrific understanding and vast experience of the ethos and culture of the not-for-profit sector. This together with their 'anything is possible' approach made =mc an obvious choice for the RNLI to partner with, to develop and deliver in-house training for our staff.

Marie Smith, Training and Development Manager, RNLI
